



While the 3D rendering aspect of the application is near flawless, the inability to really create using items other than what’s in IKEA’s catalog is what hinders the app. Objects are unavailable and the kitchen and dining room areas are the only aspects currently available. The interface is well developed for IKEA, but lacks any real application for developing a floor plan for an entire home. Windows XP SP2 or newer and MAC OS X 10.6 or better is needed to run the application. The IKEA Home Planner is a web-based application that utilizes it’s own plugin for rendering and usage. It feels more like a marketing tool than an actual planner, especially with the added pricing capabilities that are in the system. However, it currently sits as a very limited method of deigning a home as a whole and lacks many additions that most homes utilize. Placing items in the room works in the 3D view and allows you the same control and measurement alterations as the 2D view would.Īs this is a new development by IKEA, it may be only a matter of time before additions are put into the Home Planner. Using the controls on the panel, you can “look” around the room and get a sense of what it would be like with your current developments.

Although there are few items available in the system, you can add generic items to the planner in order to get an idea of what you would like to see. With a limited selection of items, you can place available appliances and objects around your room in order to build a floor plan of your kitchen or dinning room. The designer itself is quite limited in comparison to others, but the functionality of the system is easy to manage. Using a proprietary add-on from IKEA, users can quickly install the plugins necessary to begin designing the perfect floor plan for your kitchen and dining room.
